Bullit

Bullit, a Steve McQueen film, was a film recommended to us to to watch by Andrew.  So i downloaded it the other day, and sat down to watch it this morning.  Now i've never had to analyse a film before, so i wasn't really sure what i was looking out for,  but i noted down some obvious things throughout the film that i found interesting.

The first thing was the opening credits.  The scenes were changing via the main actors names-

Each scene was already 'inside' the actors names.  Seemed quite clever to me seeing as the film is from '68.  But after that, they just keep putting big blocks of credits on the screen, which was quite distracting, as the storyline of the film was already running, as can be seen at 2:16 in the clip.

During the course of the film, i didn't notice any particularly outstanding pieces of cinematography, but again, i'm no filming/film buff.  There was however a nice shot as the main part of the film kicks in, where the camera pans with a taxi, but the camera slowly rises up as it pans, which created a nice effect.

There was however a few unnecessarily long boring shots, one in particular was a bar scene, where there was nothing in particular going on, no dialect, and didn't seem particularly relevant, although no doubt it was!

Again later in the film, there is a long car chase through the streets of San Fran, with no music, just engine noise, and was in mu opinion, too long and un eventful.  Reminded me of the film 'Le Mans', also with McQueen, which i was expecting to love, but found it very slow.

Its been a long time since i watched a film that old, but overall i enjoyed the film.
